Dishwasher repair in Pickering
A dishwasher that leaves grit on the plates or water under the door is worth sorting quickly, because a slow leak under a built-in unit goes straight into the cabinet floor. Tell us what yours is doing and a local technician comes out, finds the fault and quotes the repair before replacing anything.

What usually causes it
How we sort it
We pull the racks and start at the filter and spray arms, because blocked jets and a full filter explain most of these calls and cost you nothing to fix. If water is reaching everywhere it should, we check whether it is actually getting hot, then test the wash pump pressure. Dishes that come out clean but wet are usually the heating element or the rinse aid setting, not the wash itself.

How we sort it
We scoop the standing water out, then work through the drain path in order: filter, sump, pump, hose, air gap. Something small and hard getting into the pump is behind a lot of these, and it usually comes straight out. If the whole path is clear we test whether the pump is getting power. A dishwasher that has never drained properly since it was installed often has a plumbing fault rather than a broken part, and we will tell you if that is what we find.

How we sort it
First we work out whether the water is coming from the door or from underneath, because it often looks the same on the kitchen floor. We run a cycle and watch. A door leak is usually the gasket or the hinges. Water appearing under the unit is a hose or the pump. Call us early on this one: under a built-in dishwasher a slow leak soaks into the cabinet base and the subfloor long before you see it.

A dishwasher that is completely dead and one that starts then stalls point in different directions. Dead usually means power, the latch or a fuse on the board. Stalling partway usually means it is waiting on something: water that is not arriving, or a float telling it there is already water inside. We test the latch circuit and the inlet valve first, then read the error code if the model shows one. Many faults that look like a dead control board turn out to be a five dollar latch.
Six parts cause most of the dishwasher repairs we do in Pickering. Here is where each one sits and what it does when it fails.
The rubber seal around the tub opening. Once it hardens, cracks or slips out of its groove, water escapes at the bottom corners of the door and soaks into the cabinet base where nobody sees it.
Linked symptom: water under the doorHolds the door shut and tells the control board it is safe to start. A worn latch leaves the machine completely dead, which looks like a failed control board but costs a fraction to fix.
Linked symptom: won't startThey spin under each rack and push water through rows of small holes. Seeds, glass chips and hard-water scale block those holes, and one side of the rack starts coming out gritty.
Linked symptom: dishes come out grittyThe filter at the base of the tub catches food before it reaches the pump. Left uncleaned it clogs and leaves standing water. On most models it twists out, and a rinse under the tap every month keeps it clear.
Linked symptom: water sitting in the bottomUnder the tub, behind the kick plate. The pump pushes dirty water through the hose to the sink drain. Something hard jammed in the pump, or a kinked hose behind the unit, leaves water in the bottom after every cycle.
Linked symptom: water sitting in the bottomRuns along the floor of the tub, heating the wash water and drying the load at the end. When it fails, dishes come out clean but soaking wet, and greasy pans stop washing off properly.

Every load came out with grit on the glasses and I'd started rinsing everything beforehand, which rather defeats the point. The spray arm holes were blocked and the filter was full. He cleaned it out, showed me how to do it myself, and it's been perfect since.
Integrated unit behind a cabinet door, which is fiddly to get out. He took his time and the panel went back on straight.
Standing water in the bottom every single time. A fruit sticker of all things had made it into the pump. Out in ten minutes.
Noticed a damp patch on the floor in front of the dishwasher and thought it was spills. Door seal had gone hard and cracked. He said if I'd left it much longer the cabinet base would have been the next thing to replace.
Small apartment-size machine and nobody else wanted the job. Booked me in the same week.
Dead panel, no lights, nothing at all. I was ready to buy a new one. Turned out to be the door latch, which he said is one of the most common things people replace whole machines over.
Dishes came out clean but soaking wet every time. Heating element had failed. Explained the difference between that and a wash problem, which made sense once he said it.
Drawer style unit, which I know is less common. He'd worked on them before and had the part with him.
It filled, then just sat there doing nothing. Float switch was stuck. Told me the price first and that's exactly what I paid.
Leak came back about a month later at a different spot on the seal. They came out under the warranty and sorted it without any argument.
The things people ask before booking, answered the same way we'd answer them on the phone.
Before we arrive: the model number is on a sticker along the inner door edge or the tub rim, visible when the door is open. Clearing the cupboard next to the dishwasher helps too, since the unit often has to slide out.
You can, and it helps. Scoop what you can with a cup, then soak up the rest with a towel. Do not keep running cycles to try to clear it, since that just refills a tub that cannot empty.
While you are in there, lift out the filter at the base and check it. If it is packed with food debris, cleaning it occasionally solves the problem for a fair number of people before we even arrive.
More urgent than most people think. A built-in dishwasher sits inside a cabinet run, so a slow leak soaks into the cabinet base and the subfloor where nobody can see it. By the time the flooring lifts, the repair bill is no longer about the dishwasher.
Stop using it, switch it off at the breaker if water is spreading, and call us. Put a towel underneath in the meantime.
It depends on the fault. Clearing a jammed drain pump and replacing a control board are very different jobs, so a phone estimate would be a guess. The technician diagnoses the dishwasher in your kitchen and gives you the full price before starting. If you go ahead, the visit and diagnosis cost you nothing.
Dishwashers usually last around 10 years, so age matters more here than with a fridge or a stove. The rough test: if the repair costs more than about half the price of a comparable new machine and yours is near that age, replacing makes more sense.
Pumps, seals, latches and spray arms are usually worth fixing at any age. A failed control board on a ten-year-old machine often is not, and we will say so.
Yes. Integrated units hidden behind a cabinet door take longer, because the panel comes off first and has to go back on square. Tell us it is integrated when you book so we can allow the time. We also work on drawer dishwashers, portables and eighteen-inch compacts.
Durham region water is hard, and a chalky white film on glasses is usually scale rather than a fault. Rinse aid and a hotter wash setting normally sort it.
If the film is greasy instead of chalky, or only some items come out dirty, that is a real problem: blocked spray arms, a full filter, or water that is not getting hot. Those we fix.
Our labour is covered for 3 months. If the same fault comes back in that time, call us and a technician returns with no labour charge. Keep your invoice, since it shows the repair date. Parts carry whatever warranty the manufacturer provides, and we tell you what that is when we quote.
We answer the phone from 7am to 11pm, weekends included, and a leaking dishwasher goes near the front of the queue. Call (289) 802-7279 and we will tell you the earliest slot one of our 8 technicians has open.
Drain pumps, door seals, latches, inlet valves and spray arms for these makes ride with the technician, which is why most dishwasher calls end with a working machine the same visit.
What happens next
Water spreading across the kitchen floor? Turn it off at the breaker and ring (289) 802-7279.
Four fields, about a minute. Tell us what the dishwasher is doing and we'll take it from there.
